Unions call for minute’s memorial silence

UNISON, the Royal College of Nursing and the Royal College of Midwives have all asked for the UK to hold a minute’s silence at 11am on 28 April – International Workers’ Memorial Day – in memory of all the health, care and other key workers who have died with coronavirus.

Between them the three organisations represent over a million NHS and public sector staff.

• The National Education Union has set up an e-petition against any premature and potentially unsafe reopening of the UK's schools. As of 22 April it had attracted some 175,000 signatures.
