Union warns against cashpoint removal

The GMB has welcomed a government plan under which people will be able to get cashback from shops without needing to buy anything, but warned that it must not be used as an excuse for banks to remove cashpoints.

The union points to a decrease of nearly a quarter (over 23%) in free-to-use cashpoints between the start of 2018 and end of August 2020.

Roger Jenkins, GMB national officer, stated: “We need to make sure this is not used by banks and operators to further cut our free-to-use ATM network which is already seeing massive reductions.”
