CYWU merges

The 4,800-member Community and Youth Workers Union (CYWU) merges with the massive T&G general union this month, following an 82% vote in favour.

The CYWU represents community, youth and play workers, among others. General secretary Ged Nicholls said the union had "led in this field for 68 years, and we are now better placed to advance the position of the professionals and services whose skills are so needed now." Tony Woodley, T&G general secretary, said the merger would be a boost to the union's 25,000 membership in the voluntary sector.
