Co-op job cuts

Cooperative Financial Services (CFS), which runs the Co-op Bank and the Co-operative Insurance Society as part of The Co-operative Group (the UK's largest consumer co-operative), is to shed 1,000 jobs. Dave Fleming, Unite national officer, described this as a devastating blow and said that the union would be taking a "zero tolerance approach" to compulsory redundancies. CFS should honour its ethical reputation and manage change in a way that reflects its high standing within the community that it serves, he added.
