Union says IMF plans are ‘social terrorism’

Portugal’s largest union confederation, the CGTP, has described the latest proposals from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) as “pure social terrorism”.

The IMF was asked by the Portuguese government to review the options on public sector reforms and has come forward with a package which includes cuts in pay, increases in hours and a reduction in employment as well as a diminution of pension entitlements.

In response, the CGTP has proposed a national day of action on 16 February.
