Women at risk

More women will be left vulnerable to assault if plans by London Underground (LU) to close all its ticket offices and remove nearly 1,000 staff from stations go ahead, said the RMT rail union.

The union used November’s International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women to highlight the impact of the plans for the Tube.

It pointed to a 2012 survey revealing that 14% of women (including almost a third of women aged 18-24) have experienced unwanted sexual attention while travelling on London’s public transport system.
