Inflation steady

The annual rate of inflation under the Retail Price Index (RPI) remained at 1.0% in July. The positive impact of the smaller rise in clothes prices was partially offset by falling food and non-alcoholic drink prices.

The July rate will be used to set rail fare rises from next January.

Inflation under the Consumer Prices Index (CPI) turned positive in July at 0.1%, against 0.0% in June.
