Output declines

Manufacturing output appears to be in the doldrums.

Output from UK factories fell by 0.8% in the three months ending July compared with the previous three-month period, according to the Office for National Statistics. In June the fall was only 0.3%.

The decline dragged down overall industrial production (manufacturing, mining and utilities, where output rose by only 0.3% — down from 0.7% in June.
