Inflation down

In September, the annual rate of inflation — as measured by the Retail Prices Index (RPI) — was down to 0.8% from 1.1% the previous month.

A smaller-than-usual rise in clothing prices, and falling motor fuel prices, brought about the fall in the measure.

Inflation under the Consumer Prices Index (CPI) was back into negative territory for the second time this year. The CPI rate was -0.1% against 0.0% for August.
