Unions elect
woman for ILO

Amanda Brown of the NUT teachers’ union has become the first woman to be elected by the UK union movement to the governing body of the International Labour Organisation (ILO) workers’ group. The ILO is an agency of the UN focussing on workplace and social protection.

Brown, who is assistant general secretary of the NUT, said she was honoured to take on the role as the ILO was “unique [in] giving an equal voice to workers alongside employers and governments to promote labour standards and rights at work”.
