Dearer food raises RPI

The upward trend in retail price inflation continued in October.

The annual rate of inflation under the Retail Prices Index (RPI) was up to 4.0% against 3.9% the previous month. Dearer food contributed to the rise.

Inflation under the Consumer Prices Index Housing (CPIH) — now the government’s preferred measure — was steady at 2.8% in October.
