Teachers’ action

The NASUWT teachers’ union successfully persuaded the Scottish Court of Sessions to reject East Dunbartonshire Council’s “eleventh hour challenge” to prevent strike action at three schools.

The union received notification of the council’s petition only two days before the Court hearing and its legal team sprang into action to defend their members’ right to strike.

The action relates to failures to improve teachers’ workload and working conditions. Chris Keates, NASUWT general secretary, warned that “other employers should take note. Teachers’ patience and goodwill is exhausted.”
