Rise in ET claims

The latest quarterly Employment Tribunal (ET) statistics for January-March 2018, published by the Ministry of Justice (MoJ), show a continuing increase in single ET claims since tribunal fees were abolished in July 2017.

They show that the number of new multiple claims (brought by two or more people where claims arise out of the same circumstances) fell in this period by 40% compared to the same quarter in the previous year. However, the number of new single claims (claims brought by a sole employee or worker) increased by 118%.

Since the fees were ruled unlawful, there have been nearly 8,000 refund payments to claimants totalling over £6 million.
