Inflation rate down


Inflation dipped in July. The annual rate of inflation under the Retail Prices Index (RPI) — the inflation measure favoured by union negotiators — fell to 3.2% from 3.4% in June.


The July RPI inflation rate will be used to increase regulated rail fares next year.


Inflation under the Consumer Prices Index Housing (CPIH), was unchanged at 2.3%, while under the Consumer Prices Index it edged up to 2.5% from 2.4%.
