Cammell Laird

Shipyard workers at the Cammell Laird shipyard in Birkenhead last month undertook the first of a series of 24-hour strikes after learning that management intends to slash 291 jobs — nearly 40% of the workforce — by March 2019.

The GMB union said that if the decision is not reversed, it will lead to untold hardship on the redundant workers and their families. Ross Quinn, regional officer for the Unite union said that Cammell Laird bosses “should be in no doubt of the determination of the workforce to defend their jobs”.
