Cervical screening

The UNISON public services union has welcomed the news that the NHS is bringing cervical screening back in-house.

Reacting to the announcement made by the House of Commons Public Accounts Committee last month, UNISON head of health Sara Gorton said the union was pleased to see the service was returning to the NHS, “but it should not have been privatised in the first place”.

She added: “Screening services are already under considerable pressure. Although good sense has prevailed, there must be a smooth handover process and staff need reassurance about their future.”
