Domestic violence charter signatory

Sandwell Council has become the first employer to sign up to the GMB general union’s domestic abuse charter following the charter’s launch last year.

The five-point Work to stop domestic violence charter calls on employers to support employees experiencing domestic abuse to ensure they will not be disadvantaged at work and will be supported with access to services and information.

Sandwell has also committed to training line managers and trade union reps so they can appropriately and confidently support staff.

Data from the Crime Survey for England and Wales shows an estimated two million adults — 1.3 million women and 695,000 men — experienced domestic abuse in the year to March 2018.
