Inflation falls

Cheaper petrol and domestic fuel, partially offset by dearer food and clothing, were the main factors behind a fall in inflation. The rate of inflation under the Retail Prices Index was cut to 2.9% in June from 3.0% in May.

Meanwhile, under the Consumer Prices Index, inflation remained at the Bank of England Monetary Policy Committee’s target rate of 2.0%. Under the CPI Housing (CPIH) measure, inflation was steady at 1.9%.
