Membership move welcomed in Italy

The three main Italian union confederations, CGIL, CISL and UIL, have welcomed moves to allow the labour inspectorate to introduce a new method of measuring union membership.

The main unions hope that accurate membership figures, will show their own level of support and demonstrate the weakness of other organisations whose “only purpose is to sign agreements that reduce workers’ pay and protections”.
