Young workers’ task force

The Community union has set up a young workers’ task force, which will look at why young people aren’t joining unions and how that can be reversed. The union’s general secretary, Roy Rickhuss, opened the inaugural meeting which brought together young Community members with young workers from across the UK.

It discussed what barriers might be stopping young people engaging with unions and how to overcome them. It also considered how potential and existing young members can be better reached using communications and social-media platforms.

Meanwhile, the TUC has added two new topics to its Worksmart app aimed at introducing young workers to unions. One is on finding a better work-life balance and the other on “going for promotion”.
