Inflation falls

Retail price inflation was at its lowest rate for almost three years. In September, the annual rate of inflation under the Retail Prices Index was 2.4% against a 2.6% increase the previous month.

The inflation rate was last lower in November 2016.

Inflation under the Consumer Prices Index (CPI) and CPIH, which includes housing costs, was unchanged at 1.7% in both cases, according to the Office for National Statistics.
