STUC leader

Long-standing leader of the Scottish TUC (STUC) Grahame Smith has announced he will retire from his post in May next year. He has been at the STUC for 34 years, including 14 as general secretary.

The STUC, which is independent of the TUC, represents over 540,000 trade unionists who are the members of 39 affiliated trade unions and 20 trades councils.

STUC president Jackson Cullinane said Smith had reformed the organisation to put its finances on a firm footing. “Grahame has been a tremendous asset to the STUC,” he added.
