Maternity rights

The TUC has produced a free guide which explains both the new and continuing maternity rights.

The guide covers rights to time off for antenatal care; rights and responsibilities on returning to work after having a baby; maternity pay and allowances; and special health and safety rights for pregnant women and new mothers. It also answers common questions such as: "What happens if I decide to give up my job?"

The guide is available from the TUC's Know Your Rights Line on 0870 600 4 882. Lines are open every day from 8 am to 10 pm and calls are charged at the national rate.
