T&G on flexible hours alert

The T&G general workers' union has set up a "flexible hours" watch, placing its negotiators on alert to monitor employers to ensure workers who want to work flexible hours can do so.

The union's initiative comes in the wake of a government survey showing that a third of employees would prefer flexible working hours rather than receive £1,000 more in pay per year.

T&G general secretary Bill Morris said: "What we need is the right to work flexible hours enshrined in employment contracts, not treated as a discretionary favour by management."
