Earnings outstrip prices

Average earnings have outstripped the rise in inflation over the past four years. Average earnings for the whole economy rose by 15.8% over the period while inflation as measured by the Retail Prices Index (RPI) rose by only 8.7%. Earnings have therefore grown by over 6% in real terms.
