Law Queries

Holiday requests

Q: I recently put in for two days' holiday, but my manager told me that I could not take them because I had not given enough notice. I had given two weeks' notice and I thought this was sufficient - is there any law on this?

A: Yes, it is covered by section 15 of the Working Time Regulations 1998. This says that you must give notice equivalent to twice the number of days leave requested - so for two days leave you would be required to give four days notice. The two weeks you gave was more than adequate.
