Price rises at eight-year high

Inflation hit an eight-year high under the Consumer Prices Index (CPI) measure. The CPI, which excludes housing costs, rose to 2.3% in July - up from 2.0% for the previous month. Dearer petrol and oil prices fuelled the rise.

Inflation under the Retail Prices Index (RPI) remained at 2.9% for a second successive month.
