Safety warning over London Olympics

Construction unions have warned that carnage will accompany the 2012 London Olympics unless safety concerns are addressed.

At least 13 workers, mainly migrants, were killed in construction work before the 2004 Athens Olympics. The total death toll, including infrastructure projects, may be as high as 40.

UCATT, the T&G and the GMB are backing an early day motion submitted by Labour MP Michael Clapham on Olympics construction safety. They want to see proper planning, realistic timescales, training, union recognition and worker involvement.
