Public backing for total smoking ban

Nearly three-quarters (73%) of the UK public support a complete workplace smoking ban, according to a survey by anti-smoking campaign ASH.

A smoking ban is to be put before parliament later this year, but the government is planning to exempt pubs that do not serve food and private members' clubs.

Hope Daley, health and safety officer for UNISON public services union, said: "We want the government to put their money where their mouth is and remove these restrictions."
