CWU negotiates violence policy with Royal Mail

The CWU communication workers' union has negotiated a policy at Royal Mail to tackle violence and assaults on postal workers.

Under the "Walk Safe!" policy, the first agreement of its kind at the company, security officers will monitor individual areas and assess risk factors, and managers will ensure that risk assessments are carried out in consultation with safety reps.

Where serious threats are identified, specialist trainers will help staff with issues like conflict avoidance. And Royal Mail will take a "tough line" against anyone who attacks a postal worker.
