Clyde nuclear safety fear

Union members at the Clyde Naval Base fear that funding cuts may cause a nuclear incident.

Prospect and PCS unions at the Faslane and Coulport naval facilities are campaigning against plans to cut the base's running costs by a further £30 million per year. They fear a 20% cut in staff on top of the 32% reduction that has already taken place since the base was part-privatised in 2002.

Members' meetings across the base have unanimously backed the campaign and the use of whatever means possible to stop the cuts.
