ASLEF negotiates on cabs

Train drivers’ union ASLEF has reported progress in its attempts to improve freight drivers’ cabs.

Rail companies GB Railfreight and Freightliner have responded positively to the union’s demands concerning their locomotives. Following successful trials of pneumatically cushioned and adjustable seats, providing better back support, both firms are to roll out this modification.

They are also trialling a cooling device which directs cool air onto the driver’s upper torso. And GB Railfreight provides bottled water and wet-wipes in the cab, and has begun fitting side window blinds.
