Walksafe policy needed

Safety reps need to get their employer to implement “walksafe” agreements in high risk areas, the CWU communication workers’ union said after a horrific attack on a postal worker.

The union carried out a comprehensive investigation after a postal worker in Glasgow was fired at nine times with a high-powered air rifle and hit twice, once in the temple and once in the face.

Dave Joyce, CWU safety officer said: “It is very important that area safety representatives and other branch officials ensure that ‘high risk areas’ are jointly monitored and that agreed ‘walksafe’ assault policy risk assessments are regularly reviewed and keptup to date.”
