UNISON protests deportation of SOAS cleaners

UNISON has condemned the actions of the UK Borders Agency in deporting six cleaners from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) in London in a raid in June. Two of the deported ISS cleaners were UNISON members.

The union has written to the home secretary to protest, and will meet with ISS next week to agree a future protocol. The SOAS students’ union, supported by UCU and UNISON members, won an agreement from the college that includes discussions on bringing cleaning back in house.
