Agreement reached at military bases

With most of the major settlements having reached two-year or longer agreements in the 2000 bargaining round, there are few new deals in Germany this year (see Bargaining Report December 2000). One reached last month was for the 20,000 civilian staff employed on foreign military bases, including those of UK forces. The agreement, which is backdated to 1 January and runs for 11 months provides for a 2.5% increase, plus a one-off payment of Euro102. This is barely ahead of inflation, currently 2.4% (January 2001).

The Euro was worth 63p at 14 February 2001.
