Health & safety - HSE Monitor

Safety check failures

Work was stopped by HSE inspectors at nearly one in five (18%) construction sites last month. Nearly one in four of the 2,014 building sites visited failed safety checks, 691 enforcement notices were served at 470 sites, and inspectors ordered work to be stopped immediately in 359 cases.

The inspections were carried out as part of an intensive inspection campaign. The majority of notices served were in relation to unsafe work being carried out at height.
