RMT wins for cleaners

The RMT transport union has won recognition for cleaners working for Lightbridge Support Services (LSS) on Arriva Trains Wales. The union has been building membership there for six years and now says it has as much as 70% of the workforce signed up.

Regional organiser Brendan Kelly said: “This [recognition] agreement gives our members at LSS added protection and security in a section of the union which is renowned for its poor pay, conditions and general treatment of employees.”

The RMT wants to make clear to non-members that “RMT is more than a train union, we are a transport union” and is also stepping up activity in the road freight sector, particularly logistics giant Freightliner and subsidiaries, where the union “used to have good recognition”.
