Union submission to Hutton review

As the Hutton pensions review prepares its final report, members of the UNISON, GMB and Unite unions have made a joint submission on the local government scheme (LGPS). Despite the fund having £150 billion in assets, members have still been targeted by the government for a 3% increase in contributions. The unions warn that failure to protect the low paid would make the scheme unaffordable to the vast majority of members. But they add that focusing a contributions hike on the rest “will lead to unacceptably large increases”.
