Injury reporting rules weakened

Revised reporting rules come into effect from 6 April 2012, when employers will only be required to report the incapacitation of a worker where the worker is absent for more than seven days — up from the current three days. Reports of injuries will have to be made within 15 days instead of 10.

However, under the revised Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations 1995 (RIDDOR) employers will still have to record shorter periods of incapacitation of over three days, although a record in the accident book will be enough.
