Rep doubles up on awards

Janette Dunbar, a Unite member working at Diageo’s Johnny Walker whisky factory in Kilmarnock, received a double shot of honours by winning the prestigious TUC Learning Rep of the Year Award. It will accompany the Scottish TUC’s Helen Dowie Award for Lifelong Learning that she was awarded earlier this year.

The awards are recognition of the role Dunbar played in helping colleagues prepare for the future following Diageo’s announcement that it was closing the Kilmarnock plant. When it became clear the plant couldn’t be saved, she trained as a Union Learning Rep and set up a workplace learning programme to help her colleagues train for other jobs.
