EU agreement on rights in central government

Unions and employers at European level have reached agreement on a new framework of information and consultation rights for employees in central government.

At present, EU legislation on information and consultation, through directives on collective redundancies, the transfer of undertakings and a general framework on information and consultation, does not apply to public administration, although in practice in many countries these workers are covered by information and consultation arrangements.

The agreement, which was signed on 21 December aims to cover this legal gap for workers in central government and ensure that they benefit from EU minimum standards on information and consultation.
