Unions and employers have reached a pay settlement for employees in local government. This provides for a 2.2% pay rise from 1 April plus a one-off payment of €300 to take account of the three months without an increase. The settlement runs for 16 months to the end of April 2017. The increase is above inflation, which is currently 0.6% (March).

The employers have also agreed to recruit additional staff.

€1 = 79p on 20 April.
