Work-life balance

Police staff unions — UNISON, Unite and the GMB — have agreed a deal to improve the work-life balance of members.

The deal includes greater control for staff over working patterns and improvements to maternity pay, annual leave and other allowances including adoption pay and death in service benefit.

UNISON said that the agreed changes to the police staff contract will enable staff to exercise greater control over their working lives and improve their well-being at a time of increasing job-related stress, following job cuts that had reduced workforces.

UNISON national officer Ben Priestley said it had taken “hard and skilled negotiations to win these improvements that have been overwhelmingly approved by police staff”.
