Glass agreement broken

The Flat Glass Council (FGC) multi-employer agreement is the latest industry pay deal to fall out of favour, further reducing the scope of multi-employer bargaining arrangements that still operate in some sectors of the labour market.

Phil Pluck, group chief executive of the Glass and Glazing Federation (GGF) told his opposite number at the GMB general union — national officer Phil Whitehurst — that the employer body was not in a position to open up any further talks regarding the “current but disputed” Green Book agreement for the industry.

Pluck said he’d been engaging with all 37 companies that had continued to support negotiation of the agreement, and participated in an industry insurance scheme. However, it was apparent that the employers have moved away from the Green Book in favour of local agreements, with only one wanting to retain it.
