Al Jazeera pay settlement

Negotiators from media unions BECTU and NUJ have secured a significant pay offer for workers at broadcaster Al Jazeera following four years of pay freezes.

The two-year offer consists of a 6% consolidated increase in 2018-2019, backdated to 1 January, with a 3% rise for 2019-2020.

Both unions are running consultative ballots of their members with a recommendation to vote yes.

The breakthrough came after negotiations at the conciliation service Acas following confirmed strike action called for 9 May, which was overwhelmingly backed by 80% of members in a formal ballot. The strike action was suspended as a result of the pay offer.
