Unite signs deal at Ryanair

The Unite general union has reached what it calls a “historic” recognition agreement with low-cost airline Ryanair on behalf of directly employed cabin crew. It will cover around 650 crew operating out of Ryanair’s UK bases at: Belfast, Birmingham, Bristol, East Midlands, Edinburgh, Leeds Bradford, Liverpool, London Stansted, Luton, Manchester and Prestwick airports.

The deal follows a similar agreement with Italian cabin crew unions, and comes four months after Ryanair reached its first ever union recognition deal — with UK pilots’ union BALPA.

As well as full consultation rights and collective bargaining, the company has agreed to paid rostered time off for three Unite reps to carry out their union duties on behalf of Unite members.

Unite says it is now seeking agreements with the employment agencies which indirectly employ the rest of Ryanair’s cabin crew.
