More protection for retail staff in Scotland?

Retail union Usdaw has welcomed the results of a consultation on a Scottish parliamentary bill to increase protection from violence for retail and hospitality workers. Ninety five per cent supported the bill lodged by Labour MSP Daniel Johnson which proposes a law to protect retail staff and others who sell age-restricted items, such as bar staff. It would provide “a clear and lower threshold at which obstructive, abusive or threatening behaviour is considered a crime and can be prosecuted by creating new criminal offences for verbal and physical abuse against these workers”.
