Albert Hall staff put claim to CAC

The BECTU entertainment section of Prospect union has submitted a formal claim to the Central Arbitration Committee (CAC) for recognition at London’s Royal Albert Hall.

The move follows the employer welching on an earlier agreement to honour a recognition ballot of staff on the issue.

In 2015, a ballot conducted by the Acas employment relations service revealed 52% of staff to be in favour of recognition. However, in a move dubbed by Acas as “unprecedented”, management rejected the vote, despite having agreed that a simple majority would decide the issue.

Meanwhile, Prospect has won a statutory recognition ballot among 130 workers at Babcock Mission Critical Services Onshore, in which all of those casting a vote — 65% of the bargaining unit — were in favour of recognition.
