Letter box victory for CWU

The government is set to change the building regulations following an intensive campaign by the CWU communication workers’ union to prevent the installation of back-aching, low-level letter boxes.

Earlier this month, the union reported that the Building Regulations Advisory Committee has formerly endorsed its call for change. A forthcoming formal review of the regulations will include low-level letter boxes and there will be a legally-binding minimum letter box height.

“The housing minister has also indicated to us his support for the change and we hope it can be pushed through quickly,” said CWU national health and safety officer Dave Joyce. “This is an extremely important change for the health and safety of postal workers.”
