Guide for new and expectant mothers

Employers are not doing enough to protect the health and safety of new and expectant mothers at work, according to the TUC and Maternity Action.

The two organisations have published a joint guide for workplace union reps setting out what their bosses should be doing to keep female workers safe during and after their pregnancy.

The guide covers the risks employers need to consider, including those resulting from lifting, twisting, standing and sitting and being exposed to hazardous chemicals, violence and infectious diseases; what the law says; and provides examples of practical measures employers can take.
